How a GPA Calculator Works

1. Input Courses & Grades
   The user enters each course along with its:
   • Course name or code

   • Credit hours (or units)
2. Convert Grades to Points
   The calculator converts each grade into a standard grade point (e.g., A = 4.0, B = 3.0, etc.).
3. Compute Weighted Average
   Each grade point is multiplied by its course’s credit hours, then summed and divided by the total credit hours:
   GPA = ∑(Grade Points × Credit Hours)​ / ∑(Credit Hours)​
4. Output the GPA
   The tool displays the final GPA, often with an option to:
   • View semester GPA and cumulative GPA
   • Add, remove, or edit courses
   • Save or export results
